Loyal and consistent are two words that could have been invented for the third confirmed Esh Group Eagles Newcastle signing for the 2016-17 campaign – namely last season’s Supporters Team Player of the Year, Scott Martin.

The massive fans’ favourite is back for his fourth season on Tyneside and is already looking forward to being back in Newcastle once again.

The country boy from Valparaiso, Indiana expressed his pleasure on sealing another contract with the Eagles and stated, “I’m excited for my fourth year in Newcastle with the Eagles.

“It’s a privilege to play for a team that puts so much importance on winning and I know that will be our goal once again this season. I’m looking forward to getting back and getting to work to win more silverware.”

They’re words that will thrill all concerned with the Eagles organisation as the ever-popular 6’ 8” forward brings his all-round qualities back to the BBL. Over his first three seasons, Martin has emerged as a real leader on the court and inside the locker room for Fab Flournoy’s side.

One of the most fundamentally sound players in the league at both ends of the court Martin is the sort of player every coach covets. He averaged 14.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last campaign, which match his statistics over his three-year Eagles tenure which stand at 14.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2 assists per game.

Those were the type of figures that made it a priority signing for head coach Fab Flournoy, as he shapes his roster for the challenge of the new season.

“Scott has proved his ability in our league and it is a real feather in our cap that were are able to have him return,” declared Flournoy.

“He was hurt at the end of last season and I am sure will come back with a point to prove.”
