If at the end of last season you asked a Newcastle Eagles fan which player they would like to see return for the 2015/16 from last season’s all-conquering side and they’d probably tell you, “all of them.” Ask them to narrow it down to just one and it wouldn’t be a surprise if point guard Rahmon Fletcher led the poll.

So, Eagles fans will be as delighted as the rest of the franchise with the announcement that the Kansas City native will return for a second season in the black and white to once again pull the strings for Head Coach Fab Flournoy on-court.

Flournoy recognised the importance of the signing and significance to his and The Club’s plans for the coming campaign.

“Every successful basketball team needs a point guard that can lead and who understands the system and can bring others in to the game. Our system is not the easiest to run but Fletch did a superb job last season and I’m therefore very pleased he’s back to boost our roster again.”

“He’s a pure point guard and proved last season he’s also a big-game player and can score when we need him too as well. By the end of the season the team was very much his team and his contribution was huge in our success.”

Many felt, with great respect to those that has gone before him, that Fletcher was the best point guard to arrive on Tyneside since the legendary days of T J Walker and with the announcement of his signature for the forthcoming season it gives him a further chance to create his own legacy in Newcastle.

The lightening quick Fletcher who has a great eye for a pass was voted in to the starting five of the BBL’s Team of the Year for 2014/15 and also made the all-defensive team in a season where he averaged 13.2 points a game as well as dishing out 6.3 assists.

Add in his superb MVP performances in both The BBL Cup and Play-Off Finals to the mix and it’s no wonder that everyone at Esh Group Eagles Newcastle is excited and pleased to see him return as is the man himself.

“I really enjoyed myself in Newcastle last season. The Club and City are fantastic and the fans were great to me and really supportive. I respected their decision to give me a chance last season and had no hesitations in saying yes when given the chance to return. I hope we can repeat our success of last year.”

With Fletcher back on board and the vitally important position of point guard tied down, thoughts and eyes will now turn to see who else will be alongside him in The Eagles Roster and Managing Director Paul Blake as well as Flournoy hope to make progress on that front in the very near future.
