Eagles Select vs Scotland

Friday, 28th May, 2010

Fab Flournoy admits to being a little bit surprised at his potential line-up as he prepares his Eagles Select side to take on the Scottish National squad on Saturday at Benfield Sports Centre, tip-off 6:00pm.

“To be honest I thought I’d have players queuing up to play, wanting to experience an Eagles locker room and being part of an International game where there’s an opportunity to showcase their talents.”

“The reality is that through a combination of holidays, injuries, school commitments and exams it looks like I’ll have to drag my old bones through more minutes than I was expecting to play.”

There are a couple of youngsters that have shown fire and passion and from last years Under-18 squad Dan Kovacs and Lamar Morrison will be able to have that bench experience as well as play alongside the likes of Flournoy and Defoe as well as Eaglets Neilsen and Glen.

This squad have a hard task on their hands with the Scottish side having players Gareth Murray from Glasgow Rocks and ex-Eagle Steve Leven in their ranks. Leven qualifies to play for Scotland through his Edinburgh-born father and in games against Norway his scoring talents were evident as he netted 18 and 20 pts to lead the Scots in scoring albeit he couldn’t help them avoid defeat.

“This will be a difficult game for those young guys that play. Dan and Lamar have earned their spots and I’m also delighted that Sean Malone who shows good commitment will get a spot too. I’ve also been able to reward training partners Paul Graham and Ung who have helped us out all year with places on the bench.”

“All will get their opportunities and this is a great chance for me to put the ball in the hands of Aaron and let him run the show alongside Lamar. Jamie has a great chance to show me he can be a dominant scoring forward too and that’s the sort of challenge they need and I’m excited to see how they go.”

It should be a very interesting and exciting match, tickets are still available and priced at £3 per person. Please email office@newcastle-eagles.com for tickets.
The doors open at 5.15pm and tip off is 6.00pm on Saturday 29th May at Benfield Centre of Sporting Excellence, Benfield Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE6 4NU.
